A Night for Clean Water @ Nighthawk Brewery

  • Nighthawk Brewery

Thirteen El Porvenir donors believe so strongly that everyone deserves clean water that they are presenting this challenge:

If we can raise $100,000 between August 1st and September 30, then they will match it. Dollar for dollar.

Nighthawk Brewery and El Porvenir will come together on August 1st to launch this challenge. Come and enjoy friends, craft beer, food, and prizes. Nighthawk is very family friendly so don't leave the kids at home.

  • On Aug 1st, Nighthawk will donate 5% of every food item or beer that you purchase

  • Make a donation to El Porvenir at this event and double your gift. Every gift will be matched, dollar for dollar as part of our $100,000 Challenge. Contributions will support clean water, sanitation, hygiene and watershed protection projects in Nicaragua.

  • Test your luck with our prize punch board for some awesome prizes donated by local businesses

  • bid to win on a silent auction item

Nighthawk Brewery

Like many brewing endeavors, Nighthawk had pretty humble beginnings. Back in 2010, Ethan decided he wanted to try brewing his own beer, so he hunted down some home-brew supplies and set up shop in his garage. It was certainly a trial-and-error learning experience but despite those few (or, let’s be honest, many) messy situations, brewing became a hobby Ethan loved – so much so that as he sat around on summer evenings sharing his delicious experiments with the neighbors he would often talk about one day opening his own brewery, and joked that he would of course have to name it after the street he lived on since that’s where it all began.

Three years later, the idea of turning the small home-brew operation on Nighthawk Circle into a legitimate business became more and more plausible. Ethan knew a fellow home-brewer through paintball who agreed to share his talents with us and make Nighthawk happen (and, let’s face it; Adam didn’t need much convincing). Despite the progress Nighthawk has made since 2010, none of us are eager to ditch our humble roots. We understand that approaching microbreweries can be a daunting task for those who don’t consider themselves “beer nerds”, but we will never forget that everyone (ourselves included) has to start somewhere. It will always be our goal to welcome beer lovers of all walks of brewing life so swing on by, grab a drink and welcome to the neighborhood.

About the play

Amidst chaos, confusion and war, an American engineer worked to bring electricity to rural villages in Nicaragua. El Payaso invites the audience to learn the story of an incredible man and the extraordinary people with whom he unexpectedly connected. Our tale is told through the eyes of Elías, a Latino college student, traveling to Nicaragua thirty years later, to encounter the people who are still carrying on the work of the late Ben Linder. An engineer and a clown for a cause, Linder participated in rallies and health campaigns that brought vaccines to children. His memory lives on in the work of Clowns without Borders and various environmental groups that are collaborating to bring this story to life. With red noses and humor, the performers will share the value of “thinking globally, while acting locally."

In 1987 Ben Linder was killed by Contras in Nicaragua, during a war that was fueled by the Reagan administration of the United States. For the 30th anniversary of Ben’s passing, this play will share with a new generation, an inspirational story of one idealist who saw the potential of art and science to help save the world, one small village at a time.

Charlotte moves from a hearty bout of laughter among friends to an intimate musical conversation between vocals, piano, and her incredible band.

One listener writes: “Time and again, I’ve felt like a personal friend leaning in with my ear ready. In a room filled with hundreds of people, I’ve so often felt like her words were ones I needed to hear.”

In every country these women are stepping up and speaking out against our world’s most pressing problems – including human rights, environmental sustainability, and social justice. In the space between their actions lies an opportunity for collective impact.

This July, step into that space and join more than 100 organizations at Women Powering Change 2015 to connect with innovative leaders, inspire collective impact and accelerate action for social change. This one-day event is designed to catalyze collaboration between women working to create a better world, locally and globally.  Ideas will be shared across sectors, inspiration sparked from one another’s stories, and resources connected to extend your reach and grow your impact.
